Chutney, lots of chutney!

We did manage to harvest a few red tomatoes, and they were sweet and lovely, but most of the vines were heavy with tomatoes which didn’t ripen… so green tomato chutney!

As usual with a new recipe I followed it exactly, but there seemed a heck of a lot of liquid, and it was still very fluid after the supposed  cooking time. I cooked it for twice as long, added more sugar and because it seemed definitely lacking in taste, I added quite a lot of Moroccan spices…

The proof of the chutney will be in the eating, but the little sample I had for lunch today was not bad… and it has yet to mature!

5 pounds of green tomatoes
1 1/2pounds onions, 1 1/2pounds apples… oh and some chillis!
Beginning to steam – dark brown sugar, sultanas, vinegar, salt… oh and chillis of course!

Mmmmm, looking good!
Got my jars ready!
Lots and lots!
