Butter fingers!

When I published my first book as an e-book, it was one of seven which I had completed over years of writing but had no success with finding a publisher. I had to work hard to edit ‘Farholm’, apart from friends offering advise and suggestions I had no professional support or objective, detached readers. It was great fun although I did make some errors  and the Kindle gremlins did some strange things in some places, but I was proud of what I had achieved.

I then went on to self-publish ‘The Stalking of Rosa Czekov’, and ‘Loving Judah’ and now I’m working on ‘Night Vision’. One of the things which I have realised is that I occasionally repeat myself in my different books. For example, Tyche in ‘Rosa’ drops her car keys twice, once down a drain in the gutter, and  the second time in the car-park when she’s s rushing to escape the stalker. In ‘Judah’ Aislin also drops her keys as she is hurrying away from the hotel where she has been staying. Now in ‘Night Vision’, Beulah drops her phone while climbing a tree.

What is wrong with these women? Why can’t they hang on to their possessions? The answer of course is that it is a device to further the plot; Tyche can’t get into her car because the keys are down the drain so Tic has to give her a lift; Aislin is trying to find her keys which have fallen into a puddle and she is set upon, and Beulah loses her phone but it enables the mysterious John Crow to contact her.

So next time I drop something, I’ll have to think that there maybe some mysterious purpose in my carelessness

Don’t drop it!
