Book club party games 2

Here is the second poem to be read out as a forfeit for the book club Christmas party. It is by Emily Bronte and is so sweet and simple and yet has many layers to it; I could write a whole story inspired by this… maybe I will! ‘Wuthering Heights is one of my favourite books; I read an abbreviated version when I was about eight, and was almost given nightmares by the thought of the side of  Cathy’s coffin being opened and Heathcliff’s laid beside so they could be together through eternity!

Spellbound
The night is darkening round me,
The wild winds coldly blow;
But a tyrant spell has bound me
And I cannot, cannot go.

The giant trees are bending
Their bare boughs weighed with snow.
And the storm is fast descending,
And yet I cannot go.

Clouds beyond clouds above me,
Wastes beyond wastes below;
But nothing drear can move me;
I will not, cannot go.
