Irish Word a Day

Every day I get an Irish word emailed to me… this is all part of my attempt to learn Gaelic which I have been struggling with for several years.

Talk Irish, Labhair Gaeilge is a great site to help people learn Gaelic!

Today’s word is ‘ceol‘, music, and if I link to the page there is an audio link on how to say it on its own, how to say it with an article, ‘an ceol – the music’, and an example sentence, ‘Is maith liom bheith ag éisteacht le ceol ar mo sheinnteoir MP3 – I like listening to music on my MP3 player.’

Yesterday’s word was ‘ciúin – quiet’, the day before it was ‘ór – gold’ so you can see there is a huge variety of words they offer, and always with the audio link and the examples of it used in context.

An early resolution of mine, starting today, I am going to try to learn the word, and its sentence every day! I’m going to try to do that for a month, so by the end of January I should have thirty new words!
