When you’ve had an amazing experience, something which afterwards seems like a dream or something I wrote in one of my novels, some of the details get temporarily lost. So much happened in the two days my friends and I were in Glasgow, to meet each other, and to see the Mavericks for the first time in nine years, that some of the particulars slid under others and are only re-emerging now…
Scene: In the bar after the gig with friends, fans, and the band – well two bands actually, the Mavericks and the Black Diamond Express.
Lois is standing at the bar with friends, when Robert Reynolds approaches.
Lois to Robert: can I buy you a drink.
Robert: Thank you but I have one already somewhere.
Lois: Well let me give you a hug because you’re gorgeous.
Lois hugs Robert, Robert moves away, Lois clutches bar.

Did that really happen? He hugged me. In the rain. It was very Brief Encounter.

Yes, it did but I only just remembered it! Hugging in the rain, how romantic!

“Because you’re gorgeous” is a wonderful motivation for a good many things. And it’s something the listener won’t soon forget.
