The Dolphin in Uphill, our local pub, is full of surprises and lovely things. For example, the Dolphin becomes a fish and chip shop on Friday evenings… well not literally, but it sells delicious fish and chips, and mushy peas, cooked to order… and the advantage is you can have a pint while you’re waiting. Talking of pints, the beer is consistently good, well-kept and well-loved; at present as well as Doom Bar from Sharps Brewery, we have Potholer from Cheddar Brewery. Potholer is a nice light beer, not quite my favourite, but certainly a fine pint… or two! Anyone who wants a nice lunch, where better than the Dolphin? Home cooked food, and it seems like a different menu every day!
Now the surprise… some time ago, as I was waiting at the bar for my beer to be pulled, I was gazing at the optics, and spirits standing behind the bar, and my eye was drawn to this!
Yes, the Dolphin serves a tequila called Maverick, not quite the Mavericks, but it made me smile even so! I asked if I could have the bottle when it was empty, and lo and behold, I have the bottle! No wonder the Dolphin is the best pub in the world.
Maverick tequila is a double distilled traditional silver tequila, made from the finest blue agave; It is produced and bottled in Jalisco in Mexico and comes all the way to Weston-super-Mare!

Just been out over Uphill, in the afternoon sun. I’ll maybe pop in to the Dolphin one day in the summer. I’m a Butcombe man myself, but Doombar is a good alternative.
