Hi Lois,
I was interested to see your picture of the Coastguard Cottages in Minehead. My great-grandfather, Samuel Hynes, was the coastguard here in 1916 during the first world war. The family lived next door in what was then called Admiralty House. My grandmother, Mabel Hynes, was married from this house and my father born here.
We have my grandmother’s diary from 1916 and have written an account of her time here. It gives a fascinating insight into life in those days as seen through the eyes of a 21 year old girl.
With best wishes,
Valerie Kelly

Very interested to read about your great grandfather who was coastguard at Minehead and even more interested in your grandmother’s diary. We have a friend who now lives in one of the cottages and would be interested in a copy of that diary. Is this possible? If so what would be the charge?

Lucky you! A lovely place to live! I don’t know much more than I have written here, but maybe you could get in contact with other people who have mentioned it… I’ll see if I can find some details for you!
