… the answer is Alf Tupper.
Here is the latest update from Alf Tupper aka my friend Dave Johnson and his preparation to run the London Marathon in support of a couple of very important charities, Mind and Weston Hopsicecare. If you can help Dave in any way by sponsoring him, you will also be helping a couple of very good causes:
What goes click and A-choo? – Alf Tupper!
Yes, the answer is me unfortunately. I have had to take the last week of from training due to a knee injury which not only hurts but makes a clicking noise when I bend it. I suspect a meniscus injury and have been obsessively looking at running forums and my “Beat Any Injury” book to try to find some cause for optimism. To add insult to injury (pardon the pun), I also came down with a corker of a cold but, looking on the bright side of life, it’s quite good that the cold arrived during the week that I was missing training anyway and hopefully I won’t get another before race day. Add incessant decorating to the equation and you will understand that Tupper has not been his usual chirpy self this week. However, I’m not known as the Tough of the Track for nothing and will return to training next week fully intending to run the London Marathon as planned on 21st April.Anyway, as it happens, my “Beat Any Injury” book clearly states that the best cure for a meniscus injury, apart from rest, is family, friends and colleagues donating to a runner’s chosen charity. Apparently it tends to lift the spirits of a runner who is injured which in turn leads to endorphins multiplying which then rapidly aids both the runner’s physical recovery and their motivation to keep going in the face of adversity. So, in order to help me, Alf Tupper, get back to full fitness as soon as possible, please donate to either Mind or Weston Hospicecare if you haven’t already done so. Please access the following links, http://www.justgiving.com/Dave-Johnson5 and http://www.justgiving.com/Dave-Johnson to read about my reasons for supporting Mind and Weston Hospicecare, make a secure online donation to either or both charities and leave a message of support for Alf. The fundraising has progressed much more slowly this time than previously and I appreciate that some of you may find it difficult to spare some hard earned money to donate to charity during these difficult economic times. Any amount, however small, would be really appreciated and make all the hard training I have put in during the last 5 months more than worth the effort. It will also, of course, as has been scientifically proven, help to heal my injured knee!Wishing you all a great Easter weekend,Alf
