About four years ago I made a great effort to eat more healthily, get fitter, and lose weight… and somehow I was in the groove to do it and I did it!
When I was teaching I never sat down in the classroom, was always up and down stairs and hurrying along corridors. Now spending most of my days writing I spend most of my days sitting, and I rarely have to hurry for anything!
I always do eat quite healthily; I’m not that fussed with sweet things, would never buy sweet and chocolate, don’t eat cakes often, don’t buy sweet biscuits, don’t like soft drinks… I do like fish and fruit and vegetables, I do like bread but try not to eat too much of it… and I really do like grains and legumes and fruit and vegetables… my one difficulty is I have no stop mechanism! If I’m enjoying eating something I have to make an effort to stop and not take a second helping! I’m not in the mega-eater stage, I don’t pile my plate up, or eat mountains of food, but I just eat a little more than I need… and those little mores soon pile on the pounds.
When I made my great effort several years ago I exercised every day on the Wii, plus did more walking – and tried to walk more quickly. I made a real effort to control portion size and only eat when I was hungry rather than saying it’s lunch time I must eat, or it’s six o’clock time for dinner!
So, having had a wonderful holiday with the family with gorgeous home cooked food, I now feel I must take control again and lose some winter blubber and emerge sleek and slim for the summer (well, sleekish, and slimish!) So bring on the yummy salads – but hold the olive oil!
