Almost a year to the day after I was born, my cousin Diana arrived in the world. Our mums were best friends as well as sisters, our dads became close friends and in their older years could have been mistaken for brothers. I have been fortunate too, that Diana, has always been my friend and was delighted when she married her true love last Friday.
The bride and her groom awaiting the gathering of guests
You may have noticed… or maybe not that I posted a series of romantic blogs on Friday to celebrate… meanwhile we were celebrating a wonderful, fabulous day. Diana and her beloved met us at St Pancras station, a wonderful venue, a magnificent example of British design at its best, but more of that later. We were all dressed in our finery, dress code ‘elegant’ but no-one looked more beautiful than the bride-to-be, and no-one more dashing and handsome than the groom.
We mounted a red London Routemaster bus and were transported past most of the sights of our capital city.
A Wren church… maybe someone can tell me which it is?
We travelled across the Thames to Wandsworth town hall, a stunning example of art deco architecture; there the happy ceremony took place in the most gracious and elegant surroundings.
Back on the bus and with champagne and canapés we travelled back across town to the Gilbert Scott restaurant at St Pancras where we enjoyed a splendid meal.
We repaired to a nearby pub and then tired but happy we returned home while the newly-weds returned to their hotel. It was an unforgettable day! Many congratulations, much love and good wishes to the new Mr and Mrs!
