You want a fabulous musical experience don’t you? You want your ears to be blasted and to leap out of your chair and dance like a mad thing dancing a mad thing’s dance? You actually really do want to listen to some fantastic music by an incredibly talented band… you do, don’t you?
Then you must buy Brimston For Hell, the debut album of The Black Diamond Express. I saw this band in Glasgow and it was a brilliant night – a band of handsome and talented men who sang and played and stamped and shouted the most incredible music, a mix of contemporary and traditional, blues, roots, folk, myths and stories of working people. There are real stories of real people told in their songs, and as a writer I like that! There was a range of different instruments, guitars, fiddles, harmonicas, keyboard, drums… They have such a stage presence, the lead singer who reminded me of Mark Rylance was even wearing spats!
Unless you hear their music (or see them if you’re lucky) you won’t know what a tremendous energy and power they put over lyrically and melodically. You’ll be unable to stop singing their songs, or feeling their rhythms – it was pretty impossible for me to hear them without dancing!
