No internet… no like…

When I go away on holiday and I’m without the internet, I’m fine… because e I’ve planned it and set myself up with note books and writing materials and I am all organised. yesterday we upgraded our internet package which involve some sort of new gubbins for the TV and new phones… oh what a performance.

It all started so well; I was kept informed by email and letter about delivery dates off the new equipment, the engineer phoned before he came and arrived on time. He did the deed, was pleasant, friendly, helpful and efficient and left us with a TV which had new channels and functions.

We turned off the TV and went out, leaving the new phones to charge. we cam home and tried to turn on the TV… and the new remote didn’t work and we couldn’t access the new whizzy channels. After trying to follow the rather unhelpful booklet and with no success, we rang the helpline and were put through to someone with the quietest voice imaginable who was speaking to us on a crackly line. He was no help at all but insisted that the problem was with the new remote and said he would send us a new one… We will wait to see on that score, but needless to say we are not very happy.

Today, with the phones charged, we plugged them in… and the internet went down. Well, I was completely thrown… completely at a loss. I couldn’t believe how irritated I was, and how dependent I was on the internet. I wanted to catch up on a news item… no internet to check on. I was editing my next novel Flipside and needed to check what day of the week New Year’s Day 1993 was… no internet to find out. I wanted to blog, I wanted to check my emails, I wanted to check on my archaeological course… no internet.

I have not been a happy bunny today; thankfully we are back on-line, but it was an interesting experience and taught me a little lesson. By the way, my featured picture shows a happy bunny!

The more sophisticated technology becomes the more problems we have! I certainly relate to your feelings on your unintentional internet free day, Lois!

They have those “bundles” over here too, your phone/tv/online all together, and the same thing happens, when one thing goes it all does. I don’t recommend them. Plus watch out, they usually jack the monthly rate up massively once you get acclimated to it. Sorry sweetie! give’em hell! xoxo

Quite right to mention such things, Don, I haven’t inherited any scientific abilities whatsoever… it skipped a generation and went straight to my son! Thanks for the suggestion!
