Charisma is a popular word, which, according to Wikipedia, is defined as:
- compelling attractiveness or charm that can inspire devotion in others,
- a divinely conferred power or talent.
and according to dictionary.com is from:
- 1635–45 Late Latin from the Greek, equivalent to char + -isma/ism (from cháris favour and charízesthai to favour, akin to yearn or exhort)
…or maybe it comes from a Greek word meaning gift and it is something you are born with.
I am thinking of it in the sense of a personality, rather than any religious connotations, so I wonder if the perception of charisma a personal thing? Would I think of someone as charismatic, and others think them perfectly ordinary? Could someone with charisma walk down a street or have tea in a tea shop, or a pint of Otter in the Dolphin and be unnoticeable? Would it only be when he or she met a look, or spoke the at it would become apparent, or can it be switched on and off? Might it only be apparent when the person who has it does something particular, sing, or orate for example? I found a site which offered to teach people to be charismatic? Really? I don’t think so, either you are you aren’t in my opinion!
Maybe one person’s charisma is another person’s turn-off!
Here’s an interesting article I came across:
