People born on August 7th seem most gifted; they are Leo’s, if you believe in astrology, and in the Northern hemisphere it is the midpoint of summer, and in the southern hemisphere it is the midpoint of winter.
In 1957, my favourite modern poet was born, Martín Espada. His family came from Puerto Rico and his father was very active politically; Martín’s poetry deals with every subject you could possibly imagine and is powerful and very accessible. I taught young people who have had many difficulties in their lives, and Martín’s work really spoke to them.
