We were talking about muesli and we agreed that the best possible is home-made, and for the base you need really good oats… or whatever other grains you’re using, oats, barley, wheat, rye, whatever you like!.
By the time we had finished talking the list of possible ingredients was huge!
- nuts – almonds, chopped brazils, walnuts, hazels, cashews, pistachio (if you’re feeling extravagant) and pecans
- seeds – pumpkin, sesame, chia, linseed, sunflower,
- dried fruit…. well everything is wonderful as long as the bigger fruit is chopped to a manageable size! Now we have exotic fruits in our shops such as mango and papaya, our muesli has become even more delicious!
- fresh fruit, especially soft fruit and berries.
- coconut
Muesli became popular commercially at the turn of the twentieth century, although I’m sure people had been making their own home-made version for donkeys years; eaten with milk or yoghurt or even cream, or fruit juice it is the perfect start for many people’s day, but also a great ‘snack’ any time!

Love this!!
