We used to do a lot of motorway driving, not so much now but we are still on the M-ways pretty regularly Driving back from London today, I began to think about how other people drive. I try and stick to the 70mph and I try to be a considerate driver and a consistent driver… but other people sometimes seem to drive in very strange ways.
Here are my top five annoying drivers:
- Don’t dare overtake me! These are the people who are driving along at about 65-8mph but when anyone (not just me) tries to overtake, they speed up so there is a little race for a while until I get fed up and put my foot down.
- How dare you overtake me! These are the people who, as soon as you overtake them, they speed up and overtake you.
- I hope I’m not upsetting you by overtaking you! These are people who start overtake you and then slow down so they are driving parallel, leaving you with the dilemma of either speeding more than you want to, or easing back and slowing to let them pass.
- I don’t wish to overtake you, I want you to move out of my way! These are people who come up behind you in the middle lane, and even when it is perfectly clear for them to pull into the outside lane and overtake, get nearer and nearer, hoping you will move into the inside lane so they can maintain their stately progress.
- Swingers. These are people who if they overtake you while you are in the middle lane, will swing into the inside lane as soon as possible, even if it means minutes later they have to pull out to overtake a vehicle in front. Yes, I know everyone should return to the inside lane when they have overtaken someone, but if there is another slow-moving vehicle not fat ahead, what’s the point – especially if the motorway is fairly clear and you’re not holding up some speed merchant in a BMW?
