Brits love beer, it’s an undisputed fact, and personally, although I have not tasted every beer in the world (not yet) I believe that the British brew the best beer. I’ve written quite a lot about pubs we’ve visited and beers we’ve tried…

… but today we had a new experience. Our son took us to BrewDog in Bristol. If you want to know about BrewDog, here is an interesting article:
… and here is the link to their website:

I’d never been to BrewDog before but my son has several times and spoken about it often, but this was the first time we actually made it! The bar featured dozens of beers, maybe a dozen or more on draft and lots of different bottles from every corner of the beer drinking world. It was like beer drinker heaven! Their main brews are Dead Pony Club, 5am Saint, Punk IPA, Libertine Black Ale, Dogma, Hardcore IPA and Tokyo* but there were many others, which I can’t even remember.
The young man behind the bar was very knowledgeable and we had a conversation about what sort of beer I liked and before you could say ‘Jack Robinson’ or even ‘Timothy Taylor’ he had plucked a small glass from behind him and was offering me tasters of however many I wanted! I actually only had a couple of tasters before finding one I really liked, extremely bitter and full of flavour, called Jackhammer. As I was only driving and it was 7% I only had a gill (¹/³ of a pint) My partners in drinking, husband and son had a flight – a thin wooden tray like a paddle with holes for four small glasses, each with a different beer, a great way to sample different beers without getting absolutely plastered! My son’s favourite was Hardcore, my husband liked Libertine, dark and warm.
We shall definitely be making a return visit and this time we’ll go by train!
