I posted yesterday about Amen Corner, the Welsh seven piece band who were formed in 1966 and became very popular through the late 60’s. For me the most arresting thing about the band was the voice of the singer, Andy Fairweather Lowe; he was born in 1948 so was very young when the band started. I didn’t realise that after his band years, after Amen Corner were no more, he played with so many other ‘greats’ including Roy Wood, Leo Sayer, Albion Band, Gerry Rafferty, Richard and Linda Thompson. He also worked with The Who, Eric Clapton and Roger Waters, and featured in the wonderful George Harrison tribute “Concert for George”, where he actually played George’s guitar.
Here is another little piece of Andy, wide-eyed and legless:

I discovered him because of the Concert for George 😉 He has a beautiful poetic name doesn’t he? ☺ xx

He does… I didn’t realise how talented he was until recently, but I’ve always loved his voice, just loved it!

Between Amen Corner and this piece, ‘Wide Eyed and Legless’, when he was a solo artist – and well before all the wonderfully sensitive and bluesy touring support/recording session work he did with Clapton and Waters, AFL had his own eponymous band, ‘Fair Weather’, for a couple of years in the early 70s which very few people (apart from this old fart) seem to remember. I liked them, anyway.
