English tea… and I mean tea grown in England!

My husband and I are great tea drinkers… but I confess, for the most of the time we just drink ordinary tea, , but we do use tea leaves and make it in a pot. I’m more fond of green tea than he is, but he does drink it, especially when it is a fast day for his 5:2 diet.

I was watching any-old-thing, on TV while I ironed yesterday and was tuned into ‘Escape to the Country’ while I ironed my way through the mountain of shirts an other clothes. The programme was visiting  Cornwall, a favourite place for us and with family associations for my husband. Now I had known there was somewhere in England where tea was grown and plucked and made into a drinkable product, but I hadn’t remembered where this happened.

Tea is grown in Cornwall on the Tregothnan Estate; it is of such fine quality that much of it is sold abroad, particularly to China, the home of tea! On investigating their web-site I discover that they also produce other wonderful and beautiful things…. The Tregothnan estate is extremely old, dating back from at least the 1300’s but much changed since then, obviously, in fact the original house is sited where a plantation of holly trees now grow. The estate also has land in Kent – which is a double link to my husband, his family comes from Kent, he grew up in Cornwall! To add to the delights of the place there is also a botanical garden which was started four hundred years ago.

You can investigate for yourselves, and find out how to visit here:
