We went to Kent and on the way home we went to Dungeness as we had never been there before. it is a long shingley beach, quite unique, I believe. It is a very special place from an ecological point of view, with hundreds of rare plants, birds and insects. It lies between the sea and Romney marsh and is a strange and beautiful place… very difficult to describe in words as it has a curious atmosphere unlike any beach I’ve ever been to before.
There are little houses, some hardly more than shacks, some built round old railway coaches, and all of them very expensive to buy! The area is dominated by the nuclear power station and there are two lighthouses; the old one constructed in 1901 and the latest of the five that have been on this site, built in 1961. When we were there a fog hung around the top of the new lighthouse and along the shore giving it an even more eerie and etherial feeling… I loved it and would like to visit again!

Lois, I wanted to leave a comment here with some pictures, but I don’t think I can include pictures in a comment on your blog, so I posted them to the Two Old Drummers blog, which I think you have permission to view. Here’s the link to the post.
