Sometimes you can’t help but overhear what the people on the next table in the pub are talking about, especially if they are speaking loudly and laughing a lot!
There were six lads on the next table to us who were planning a lads’ day out.
“We’ve got to go to Brean Leisure Park!” This is a local holiday resort with a fun-fair. “Honest! We’ve got to go there, it’s the best!”
“Brean?! You’re joking! Why do we want to go to Brean?”
“They film Sooty there!” Sooty is a glove puppet who was created in 1948 by Harry Corbett and first appeared on TV in 1952; he was a small very cheeky teddy-bear with a friend called Sweep who was a dog. The show has now been re-worked through Harry’s son Matthew, and Richard Cadell and is set in a holiday camp, and filmed at Brean. “And frank Bruno was there…. he was looking at the sand sculptures, and pretending to be one!” Frank Bruno was a professional boxer WBC heavyweight championship in 1995.
