This is Ernest Colgate and his father John; I think the picture must have been taken in the early 1900’s as Ernest was born in 1881 and looks about twenty-ish here. They certainly look very smart, and there is definitely a Colgate look which my husband and son have inherited. They were both born in Surrey and worked on the land, hard lives but they were honest and upright men and proud of themselves and their families. John was one of ten children, his oldest sister was twenty-two when his youngest brother was born! Ernest had three sisters, one of whom died as a baby. Ernest himself had three daughters, one of whom was my mother-in-law!
