Autumn woods

There is something about autumn woods which is different; the trees may be bare but they can still catch the gleam of November sun on their bark.  Though there may still be green upon many trees, there is a sense of completeness in the falling leaves, they will decompose and nourish new growth and the floor of the woods becomes a soft carpet of different shades of brown and red and gold; and on a sunny day it can be warm enough to sit on and on a frosty day the leaves and beechnut husks and acorns are decorated with silver rime. There is a stillness, but unseen, creatures are storing nuts and seeds, or preparing to sleep through winter; birds may call and deer may watch, but there is an essence of quiet which seems particular to autumn woods.

ooohh – I love this picture. It reminds me of my magical back yard. Wait a minute – hold everything – is that Bigfoot in the back?? Oh sorry, my bad. Just a tree – snorts. 🙂 XOXO – Bacon
