Lion Woman

DSCF6010This is my third post about the exhibition at Salford Art Gallery by the artist Sarah Greaves; you might just be able to see some writing on the underneath of this green figure in the paining entitle ‘Lion Woman’, it is Armenian. There has been an Armenian community in Manchester for a very long time, and Sarah herself visited Armenia as well as working with Armenian people here.

Armenia i a very ancient country, dating back to over six hundred years BC; it has had a sad and very tragic and turbulent history and it was only in 1991 that the modern republic was established. It has no coastline and is bordered by Turkey, Georgia, Iran and Azerbaijan, and many Armenian people live in those countries, as well as thee being a large diaspora.
