Remembering

Photo0418Everywhere you go in our little island there are war memorials and plaques and boards like the one above commemorating men and women who have given their lives for our country; whatever anyone thinks of war or the rights and wrongs of any situation, the people who were wounded or died suffered terribly, the tragedy is for the families, the ordinary people who have lost loved ones. You can go to the smallest parish, the tiniest hamlet, to schools and banks and post offices, and somewhere there will be a list of those who were lost but remembered with love and gratitude. Nearly a million people died, not jus in battle but through other causes too, and nearly 1.7 million people were wounded… I know it was equally bad and worse in other countries… but seeing this memorial board here, just made me think…
