Our news channels have been full of pictures and stories of the poor people whose festivities have been ruined by the weather… from the annoying but relatively minor inconvenience of being delayed in their travel arrangements, to the problem of having no power in their homes for up to a week, to the absolute disaster of being flooded…. to be flooded at any time must be dreadful, to have it happen in the cold winter must be worse, but over Christmas? When there has been the anticipation of celebrating a joyful time with friends and family? I can’t imagine how they must be feeling.
Over the last two days our central heating hasn’t been working… we still had a gas fire to keep us warm, an immersion heater to give us hot water and a gas stove to cook our Christmas Dinner. it might have been a little annoying, but I was only too aware how trifling our problem was compared to others. We take so much for granted, and yet how very fortunate we are.
