That sinking feeling

Our house faces straight down the road towards the coast, so all the on-shore wind hits us full on, as well as any rain, snow, sand it might be carrying. We decided to replace our bedroom window which bears the full brunt of it, but when the man came to look at it, he discovered that a little projecting roof beneath was coming away from the wall of the house. We were grateful to him for having noticed it and mentioned it, so we got another man to repair the roof.

The featured picture is not of our house, but our neighbours’ and you can see the little roof projecting over the front door and sitting room window.

The roof man arrived today… apparently the little projecting roof is not supported by anything, except the window frame of the room below…. oh dear… So now he is having to do a major repair, all the tiles off, new supporting timbers inserted, a sort of prop thing put under the corner of the roof…

Thank goodness for the moment it is dry and there is almost a glimmer of sun… I’m glad we are getting this problem sorted… but  I just wonder what other defects will be found!
