Bridgwater expedition

For some reason some people round here don’t like the town of Bridgwater which is a dozen or so miles south of us in Somerset. We always enjoy visiting, there’s always plenty to see and plenty of interest. In the past it was a major port with a harbour attracting vessels from far and wide. Now it has slightly fallen into neglect, but it still has charm, lots of attractive buildings, and we always find something to do there… and if not we have a cup of coffee at a favourite café.

The historical person most connected to Bridgwater must be the Admiral Robert Blake, who in many senses founded the modern navy. He has been eclipsed a little by Nelson, but Blake was a remarkable and fascinating man. There is a museum dedicated to him in Bridgwater which we went to many years ago when the children were young. Last year we thought we would go and visit it again… but we went on the wrong day and it was closed. We tried to visit again on the right day, and it was closed until April 2014 for repairs and renovations… so today, we are going again to try to visit the museum!

I’m really looking forward to it,and if for some reason it is closed, we will have coffee in our favourite café, and we might even have lunch in a favourite Mediterranean restaurant by the river!
