Mundesley coastguard cottages

We have a terrace of coastguard cottages in our village, and once you’ve seen them, it’s easy to spot others around the coast. Here is the best shot I could manage of the coastguard cottages at Mundesley in Norfolk. Mundesley is an old place, it was mentioned in the Domesday Book, called Museleai back then in 1086; it was given to William de Warenne by William the Conqueror, although he didn’t really have the right to give other people’s land away… except as a conquer no doubt he thought he had. The Normans were Vikings, Norman is a contraction of Northman or Norseman. William the Bastard, as William the Conqueror was also known, was William I of England. The other William, de Warenne, gave the land to a couple of Saxon freemen, Grinkel and Eadrics.

We visited Mundesley on our Easter holiday and it is a charming little place… but I had one of the worst cups of coffee I’ve had in recent times!
