I have been following an excellent on-line course about Shakespeare and his world, presented and led by professor Jonathan Bate from Warwick University, and using the wonderful resources of the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust, at Stratford-upon-Avon.
We have looked at aspects of Shakespeare and his world through a selection of his plays, and now we have come to the last week of the course and we have an optional assignment we can do, if we like. I feel as if I really should do the assignment to show I actually have learned something from the course. The assignment invites us to write 300-500 words on “ a creative work which was inspired by one of Shakespeare’s plays or poems” it doesn’t have to be a play we have covered on the course but we have to describe how the chosen work “brings to life an aspect of Shakespeare’s world that we have explored during this course”.
Gosh… this is not an easy task at all… after much pondering, I think I am going to look at Henry Fuseli’s paintings of scenes from Macbeth… but how I am going to tie it in to the course I am not too sure… I think I will drop back and look at some of th excellent videos again! Wish me luck!
