Twelve years ago

Twelve years ago today, with the help of dear friends, my family and I moved into our house. We had hoped to move to the west country for several years; although we had lovely friends in Oldham and loved the north of England, for family reasons we needed to move to Somerset. We visited often before we moved, and had decided that ideally we would like to live in Uphill. We used to wander around, looking at property for sale, waiting for one or other of us to get a job down this way so we could relocate. We used to walk past a house at the end of a cul-de-sac, a house with enough bedrooms, and with a garden, an attractive house, just right for us, but it was out of our price range. After several years, hurrah! I got the job of my dreams and so we moved and my husband became a stay-at-home-daddy with the children. We had temporary accommodation, and discovered that the house we had seen and so much admired… was still for sale! Better still, the price had not risen but was the same as it had been a couple of years before! Negotiations were entered into, and lo and behold, our dream house became our real home!

We moved in twelve years ago today, and we have never once regretted it and still love our house s much as ever! It might not be perfect… I wish it had a bigger entrance hall, I wish the kitchen was a different shape… and other little things, but really, I don’t care! I love our house, our happy home!
