My friend Tim and I were talking… we are almost exactly the same age and it won’t be long before we have to make decisions about our lives; it’s better to make decisions when you have the freedom to make them and the time to choose what you want so we were talking about how we are both fit, healthy, well, young and able to choose where we want to live and what we want to do…
Yes we are free… however we are both in our different ways, financially, and for other reasons. Tim has an elderly relative who needs to be considered in any decisions he an his wife make. We have two almost grown up children who we need to think about. Tim would love to buy a canal boat, not to live on but to have as a hobby; he is also interested in canal restoration so would like a boat which is on a canal where he could do this sort of work, and have a community of like-minded people around. Although we live near the sea, it is on an estuary and we would love o move to somewhere the sea is a bit more wild and splashy! My husband would love to move to Cornwall, but is it practical?
As we were talking, side by side in the Dolphin, we both agreed that one of the really crucial factors in choosing to move is the pub in the place you move to… and we both agreed we would be hard pressed to find a better pub than the Dolphin!

The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry. Not to sound like a downer but at a certain age being close to a good doctor or medical facility makes more sense than a good pub. A pub is just a building without your friends there. But to have a dream or a wish is still an important motivation. You have to believe in tomorrow.
