Dear friends at my book club, I am really sorry that once again I have not finished reading the book for this month’s meeting… I just didn’t like it, couldn’t engage with it, thought it was too contemporary (maybe I mean fashionably rubbish!) I thought the devices it used to tell the story were the sort of thing a clever GCSE student might use for his or her English language exam… in other words… I humbly apologise that I read the latest Michael Ridpath book, Sea of Stone, another book by Yrsa Sigurðardóttir , and am now romping through a book by an author new to me Quentin Bates. So dear book club companions, I hope you accept my apologies… I will try harder next time, but please could we choose a book which has an interesting plot, believable characters, twists, turns and suspense, and is well written? Thank you, love from Lois
