A little exciting moment

It has been a bit of a mixed day today, sunny when I got up and made a cup of tea and quickly got my things ready for my English conversation class, grey as I was driving there, bright as I set the room out, spitting with rain as the ‘students’ arrived… and so on. I put some washing out when I got home, lovely sunshine! I brought it back in again as we went shopping, the sky dark and thunderous. Coming out of the shop it was heaving it down with rain, but then back home again and it was sunny.

Now it is merely grey, but very warm and the light breeze which has been blustering about all day has dropped and it is calm. I looked out of my study window, down into the garden, and I noticed that there are tiny little apples growing on the apple tree in the middle of the lawn! We didn’t have as much blossom this year as previously, maybe it was all the wet weather, and when I looked at the tree recently I couldn’t see any signs of fruit… but today, there they are! Apples in September!
