For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction… so for every load of washing i do I have a pile of socks to sort, none of which seem to match any other, nor do they match any of the other lone socks I have kept from previous washes… I have mountains of odd socks… but as soon as I decide enough is enough, and throw some of them away, their partner socks come scurrying out from wherever they have been hiding and present themselves in the next basket of washing.
Similarly, the longer you spend looking for something which has been misplaced in the house, the shorter the time it reappears after you have given up the search and bought a new one. Having bought a new one, so you now have two of them, they both abscond leaving you back to where the miserable process began, looking for two somethings you know you have… and obviously as soon as you buy a replacement… and guess what?!!
Loose change… you have a purse or pocket full of it… you need loose change for a parking ticket or to get a trolley from the supermarket or a locker at the swimming pool… where have all the coins gone? Sometimes there is a double annoyance; you are weighted down with coins, you take out a handful for the parking ticket/trolley/locker and you have every denomination you could imagine, including some euros, some Australian dollars and some small brass ones whose country of origin is unrecognisable… but you do not have the coin you need for the parking/trolley/locker…
This phenomena creeps into the kitchen… you want plain flour, you only have self-raising; you want castor sugar, you have icing/demerara/granulated/muscovado; you want 12 ounces of butter/margarine, there is only 8¾ in the fridge… It doesn’t matter if you go shopping regularly and try to make sure your kitchen basics are kept topped up; you will find you have several bottles of olive oil but you have run out of vinegar, you have a cupboard full of mayonnaise but no mustard, you have enough teabags to stock a small corner shop but you have no coffee…
I’m sure there must be some explanation…

There is. A place for everything, and everything in it’s place would be a good start. Make a list before going shopping etc, etc etc.
