We saw this moth perched on our window sill as we set off to go on a visit. I looks just like a broken off bit of twig, and that is its camouflage! it is called a buff tip moth and apparently is common throughout the K. It must be very good at disguising itself because this is the first one I have ever seen! It is trying to look like a bit of silver birch which is strange because the caterpillars which are black with thin yellow-green lines along the length of their bodies, and thick yellowy brown bands running round them eat mainly lime, oak and elm leaves. The caterpillars also have black heads and a row of black spots along their sides.
