First time in print!

This was the first time I was published – in our school magazine… actually it was the second because I was in the mag the previous year. The other contributor, Janet, was the niece of my uncle, so I guess we are cousins in law.

Reading through the articles, I have a mixture of nostalgia and amazement at how distant the world the girls are writing about is. There are the usual things you would expect in a school magazine, the clubs’ report, the games report, the different councils and meetings including the Council for Education in World Citizenship and the student Christian Movement. There are reviews of school events such as speech day,  productions, concerts and performances, and then there are the poems, the short stories, the pastiches, the comical articles and line drawings.

There are several articles about the Beatles, about James Bond, and about wrestling… not the stylised and glamorous ‘sport’ that it is now, but sweaty, paunchy men in what looked like swimming trunks.

So here is my little story… many years later one of my novels starts with two people trapped in a lift… I wonder if I subconsciously remembered this?
