Finished!!!

I am so excited! I have finished the fist draft of my next novel, Magick, which charts a family’s search for their ancestors, and their present lives as well. There will be a lot of work to be done on it, not least checking, double-checking and checking again that the chronology hangs together and that the genealogical details are correct… But it is done!

The first thing I will do is read the whole thing through as a piece; I will change any obvious mistakes and errors, and do little rewrites if necessary, but the point of this first read-through will be to make sure that the story itself makes sense, and that it has shape and form and is interesting, exciting, and readable. After that first read-through then there will be the nick-pickety checking, which will mean writing out family trees, checking dates and names (sometimes I’ve changed names for various reasons) and to cut out rambly boring stuff… I’m actually good at rambly boring stuff, I must be strict with myself and chop it all out remorselessly! Then I’ll read it through again, and this is when sometimes the real re-writing happens when I begin to see where the errors are and where there is too much padding and where there is not enough detail. lastly I will go through spell-checking and looking for other errors… one last read, upload to Kindle Direct Publishing… and boom! it will be out there, and I hope if you read it you will let me know what you think!

I haven’t yet decided a publication date, but you will be the first to know!

Thank you very much! Now the really hard work begins… is fun to flow along with inspiration, the checking, double checking and checking again needs more effort… although it is still the best occupation!
