Exciting news! I have decided I will be ready to publish my next novel, Magick, in three weeks time… on October 14th. This would have been my mother-in-law’s 100th birthday, so that seems like a good date.
Magick is the story of a family, going back from the present day, into their past two hundred years, back to the turn of the eighteenth into the nineteenth century in Cornwall. Three brothers are born in the early eighteen hundreds, and their relationship with each other, and the way they react to the terms of their father’s will has implications which carry down over the next two hundred years.
As well as the family’s research into their genealogy, finding out about their ancestors lives, deaths and loves, Magick is the story of the search for a lost girl. Fifteen years ago, a young girl ran away from home; she is still living in the same area, but her parents can’t find her because she doesn’t want to be found. The police cannot be involved because the girl, now a woman in her thirties, does not want to be found. However, the parents are desperate to know that she is all right, and part of my novel is about the search for Roxi, as she now calls herself.
The third element of Magick, is the developing relationship between the main character Thomas, and the new woman in his life; he is living with a young woman and her small son, very much in love and desperate to be a real father to the little boy. Thomas has many personal issues around confidence, self-esteem and trust; he suffers anxiety and panic attacks as a result of things which happened to him in his own childhood. Magick follows the development of his new relationships, and his growing self-belief.
I am so excited about my new novel… I think it has lots of elements to interest and grip the reader!
