English conversation

I’ve mentioned before that once a week I teach English conversation along with several other volunteers. We make a good team and really enjoy meeting and working with the variety of people who come to our classes. I was a teacher, and so was one of the others, but the rest of the volunteers are just people who want to help our fellow townsfolk who come from other countries and have a different first language, improve and enjoy their English.

We never know who will walk through the door, but we’re always ready with a warm welcome; today we had three new students, from three countries which we haven’t had people before, Iran, Afghanistan and Somalia. I think they enjoyed the lesson, and hope we see them again next week, but we never really know! We ave some people we see every week, and others we see once and then they move on, or find a job, or have something else thy have to do.

We were just thinking about our students over the five years we’ve been working; we have had over a hundred different people in our classes, and from over twenty different countries! it’s no wonder we enjoy it so much!
