Slow walkers

I’m not a really speedy walker, short legs and an ability to be easily distracted from my path by interesting things to stop and look at… however in the interests of trying to be fitter and lose a little weight, I do always try and walk fairly speedily if I’m going somewhere. I have become more aware of others walking since I have tried to speed up, and bearing in mind my reason for walking more quickly, I have been struck by the number of very large people, not with any walking difficulty as far as I can see, who walk excessively slowly, dragging their feet, usually concentrating more on the giant burger/ice cream/cake/pastry in their hand or the large bottle of cola, drifting along, tummies protruding… People eating fast food often seem to be the slowest people… Come on slow walkers, emulate your food, be fast, speed up just a little, you’ll use more calories!

I got injured twice at work twelve years ago and my ability to walk has dropped off to the point that I use a cane now. I don’t think about it much now but my poor wife feels sorry for me. I struggle along keeping in shape by working out but am limited as to what exercises I can do. I fall asleep thinking that I will wake up the next day and all be right again and it was all a bad dream. What irks me most is the people that park in the handicapped parking spots at the YMCA to save on parking fees across the road at the health center. I try not to be judgemental of others always thinking that they may have health issues but if not then your right and they should make an effort to keep fit. I may not be too smart but i’m not a quitter. There are others in a lot worse shape than me. Thanks!
