Random!

As usual on a Tuesday night we wandered down to the Dolphin for the pub quiz; tonight there was just the two of us, my son and me; my husband was at his rock band practice, my son’s friends have moved to a distant village, and the others have interviews/other things to do. So tonight it is just the two of us. Since we only go to the quiz for fun, and to meet other friends, and to enjoy each other’s company we are fine as a team of two.

The quiz at the Dolphin is different from many other pub quizzes; there are twenty-fie questions n each of the two rounds. The answer paper is divided up into a square, five by five boxes with the numbers totally randomly distributed. There are about six different random distributions of numbered boxes on the answer papers. The questions, which could be about absolutely anything, football, history, geography, current affairs, music – new, old, classical, rock, pop, show, opera etc, current affairs, adverts, TV/film, etc etc are read out in numbered order 1-25. The answers, however are read out in random order, and as the numbered box on the answer sheet are also in random order, where your answer is marked right or wrong is totally… random! If you get a straight line of answers right, horizontal/vertical/diagonal, or if you get the four corners correct as the answers are read out, you shout ‘Dolphin!!!’ as loudly as you can, and if you’re the first g=to get the line or the corners, then you win £10. After all the answers are read out, the team with the highest score wins.

We did really badly tonight; no shouts of ‘Dolphin!’ and no high score… we didn’t actually care, we jut enjoyed, taking part!
