A week tomorrow it will be November 1st, and November 1st is when a month-long challenge starts… I’m not growing a moustache, so it’s not Movember, I’m not giving up alcohol/cigarettes/food… I’m starting the National Novel Writing Month, a thirty-day challenge with no reward except the delight and pride and sense of accomplishment in achieving it… I am challenging myself to write 50,000 words in a month. It’s not just me, obviously, hundreds of thousands of others are doing the same which I think is amazing and marvellous!
I think it is really brilliant that all those people will sign up to being creative and to try to write something; maybe they have done the challenge before, maybe they have several NaNoWriMos’s under their writing belts, or maybe this is the first time. Maybe they will achieve or een surpass their goal, or maybe they won’t and maybe they won’t even write one word. Somehow that doesn’t matter… the important thing is that they thought about writing, they must have had some story in their heads which even if they didn’t manage to write it or even start it, it was there.
I still haven’t properly decided what I am going to do… But no doubt a week on Sunday i will tell you… Sunday because I have a feeling that when I start writing on saturday I will surprise myself by what I start with!
