I am fascinated by old photograph albums; I am most fascinated by those belonging to my family of course, because most of the people are related to me, but then there are all the other photos which have no inscription beneath or on the back, or they are stuck down so you can’t see anything that might be on the back.
I have an album of my dad’s family; most of them are of him as a young man in his middle and late teens, and photos of him with his friends, fishing, swimming, being on a boat on the River Cam. There are a couple of his dogs, there are a couple of his brother and sister, and of his parents… and then there is the old gentleman in the photo I have used as my featured image. He is stuck inside the front cover, and stuck too firmly to be peeled off without risking damaging the photo or spoiling the old album. I feel as if he must be a relative… but maybe he isn’t… Maybe he’s my great-grandfather, but maybe he isn’t… maybe he is an old uncle, or an old friend of the family… I must ask my cousin and see if she knows!
