Near Salisbury Cathedral

These little old cottages are near the cathedral in Salisbury; we stop and look at them and take photos of them and think how interesting, how pretty… but when they were first built they were just homes, people’s homes. They probably liked them as we like our homes, and probably gave not much thought to them. Their neighbours would have passed by with barely a glance, because no doubt their houses were similar.

No-one looks at our house as they pass; they might look at some of the plants in the garden, but no-one would really notice much about our ordinary 1980’s brick house with its tile roof and double glazed windows. If a hundred or so years passed, and maybe some for the nearby houses were pulled down and rebuilt, then maybe our house would cause more interest. If after another hundred years, it was one of the only brick and tile houses in our village then I’m sure many people would look at it… another hundred years and out village maybe changed beyond all recognition, then maybe people would actually come specially to look and even take images of it… although goodness knows what technology will be available in  four hundred years time!
