Iceland is full of many dramatic geological features, the original geyser is in Iceland, after all! Basalt columns, volcanic caldera, black beaches, hot springs… and waterfalls.
When I last visited Iceland I only saw a couple, but good heavens, they were amazing! The falls are fed by the Hvítá (which means white river) a river which has its origin in the glacier of Langjökull. The sheer size and power of the millions upon millions of gallons of water tumbling from the heights of rocky cliffs is stunning. We visited one of the most famous Gullfoss, which means The Golden Falls. When we went there in February, maybe they should have been renamed as silver falls! The vast expanse of tumbling water, was just incredible, the sheer noise of that volume of water falling was almost deafening.
If you visit Iceland it is one of the main tourist attractions… you’ll see why if you go there!
