I’m a member of U3A, the University of the Third Age, and as well as going to a couple of groups, I also lead a couple of groups. There was already a creative writing group with a waiting list when I joined U3A, and I took over the waiting list and started Creative Writing group 2; it’s so thrilling that people want to write, and before long there was another waiting list, so I started Creative Writing 3.
CW3 met this afternoon, with two new people, which was great! We had an excellent meeting, it was so interesting for me, very thought-provoking and very helpful for my writing – so I hope it was equally helpful for them too!
The three writers all had very contrasting styles, and this made it a really good meeting; one of the group specialises in writing short stories and scenes from personal observation, family stories and tales, retold and interpreted with creativity and flair.Another person has been writing shorter pieces of about five hundred words, but packed with detail, nuance and subtlety to create a really interesting almost micro-stories. The third member of the group this afternoon, is writing a longer story, a thriller, set in the 1950’s and wonderfully capturing the flavour of the time… I can’t wait to find out what happens next in the story which starts!
