I think I might start a new hobby… tying knots! I was brownie, and one of the things we had to do was to learn to tie knots, but of course we only tied easy and useful knots, sheep shank, round turn and two half hitches, reef knot and a clove hitch… I can’t say I’ve used them a great deal, but I always enjoyed practising them and certainly got my knot badge, or whatever it was you got as a brownie for tying knots.
I’ve never been into rock-climbing, sailing or fishing, all of which really do need a sound knowledge of tying stuff together; nor was I into riding so never needed to hitch my trusty steed to a hitching rail. However, I got to thinking about knots and found an amazing site which gives clear descriptions of the knots and what they are used for, and what’s more, great videos to follow to practice tying! This will make a Brownie’s life so easy… if they still have to tie knots!
