My family nickname is Loki and as we were wandering round Reykjavik, having just visited the fabulous Hallgrímskirkja, we saw just opposite the church square, Café Loki… well we had to go, didn’t we? It was lunch time and we were quite peckish.
We were given a warm welcome and settled down to study the interesting menu… what a lot of wonderful food tempted us! Since we were in Iceland we thought we ought to have an Icelandic platter, and the friendly waitress helped us choose what would be to our taste… I’m interested in just about any food, but my husband is a little more conservative!
We had a mixed platter with dried stockfish, salmon, mashed fish – which is so delicious we are going to try making it at home, fermented shark… which seemed reminiscent of a very strong French cheese to me, and a shot of Brennivin to help enjoy it! Oh, and we had some wonderful smoked lamb too… Fabulous, absolutely fabulous!

The smoked lamb was lovely as I remember but I passed on the fermented shark

I liked it… but I do like very strong cheese… and also the Brennivin was very nice! 😉 Did you try skyr – a bit like yoghurt? I loved that!
