A great-uncle of mine was married to a young woman called Elsie; everyone in the family knew her as Elsie, but it turns out her name was actually Louise. Tragically she and her new-born daughter both died, uncle eventually remarried and had another daughter.
Trying to find the family of Louise Elsie or Elsie Louise seemed to be straightforward, she had an unusual surname… but it seems not unusual enough and I came across a couple of women with exactly the same name and year of birth… so which one was married to uncle? I thought she might have been the daughter of Henry and Georgina… but she may have been the daughter of Susanna and William, an unemployed sanitary inspector from Dublin. If they were her parents then she had sisters called Bertha Dora, Emma Verena and Constance Daisy. This Louise and her sister Constance were physical culture instructors… really? In 1911? Good heavens! Her two sisters were both shorthand typists… How interesting!
If this was the right family then there was an older brother, William who was a G.P.O. (General Post Office) night duty worker… But can’t find out at the moment if this is the right family!
